Soft Shell Crab at Simply Thai in Xintiandi, Shanghai.
Just a few doors down from The Langham Shanghai, you will discover the wonderful Simply Thai.
After a friendly greeting by the staff, I sat outside to dine al fresco, being a balmy night. I decided to forego the spicy Tom Yam seafood soup (a usual Thai favourite of mine). Instead, I ordered the larger serve of their Soft Shell Crab (2 crabs). With a Tiger beer in hand to quench my thirst, my crab shortly arrived.
The crispy crab is delicious. Cooked just right to retain its full flavour and texture, resulting in a succulent yet crunchy delicacy.
I was pleased to note that it was well-drained of any cooking oil, which suggests attention to detail by the chef. The crab is lightly dusted in harmonious spices and drizzled with mayonnaise. Yum!
The crab sits on a very fresh, crisp garden salad of various red and green leaves including rucola (rocket). This makes the dish quite refreshing – filling yet light. Perfect for an evening meal!
Other points to note about Simply Thai…
The staff have a brilliant attitude and are attentive. A few drops of rain were promptly taken care of with additional stand-alone umbrellas, so as to not spoil the dining experience…that’s service!
The atmosphere is good with soft table lighting, yet bright enough to see the delectable food you are eating.
Simply Thai is only a 3 minute walk from The Langham on a lively, tree-lined street with restaurants and boutiques – making it perfect for people-watching.
